Smart Engines has released GreenOCR® 2.0, the new generation of its eco-friendly AI technology for document scanning and data extraction. The updated ultralight computing architectures have increased processing speed by 20% and reduced power consumption during recognition. The error rate has been reduced tenfold compared to the previous version.

GreenOCR® 2.0 delivers full-fledged AI capabilities even on devices without a GPU. The technology ensures high-quality and high-speed passport and document recognition while minimizing energy usage and environmental impact. The new release combines two approaches — 4.6-bit neural networks and 8-bit neural networks with tree averaging designed specifically for modern mobile devices based on ARM architecture. This hybrid method provides exceptional scanning speed.
Performance and energy efficiency have been improved without compromising recognition accuracy. The updated model demonstrates ten times fewer errors than before and confidently processes printed and handwritten text in 103 languages. The launch of GreenOCR® 2.0 supports the company’s comprehensive ESG strategy. Since 2020, Smart Engines has been the first OCR developer to join the United Nations Sustainable Development Initiative.
