Smart Engines Introduces Lightweight AI Technology for Instant VIN Recognition

Smart Engines has unveiled advanced AI technology designed for the instant recognition of Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs). The system captures and processes a vehicle’s unique code in 0.2 seconds, reliably identifying VINs regardless of their placement or poor image quality. This innovation enables fast and accurate identification of vehicles during servicing and other operational processes.

The new VIN scanner reliably reads pressed, embossed, or printed codes—making it suitable for automotive accounting, maintenance, sales and purchase processes, and insurance workflows. The algorithms perform consistently with images of varying quality and are resistant to changes in lighting, camera angle, and other visual interference.

The new functionality is now part of the Smart Code Engine software. The program is designed for high-precision QR, barcodes, bank cards and MRZ in ID scanning. It integrates easily into existing customer IT infrastructures and can be deployed in data collection terminals as well as banking, insurance, and agency applications. The technology also brings significant value to auto insurance, car-sharing services, and other vehicle-related industries.

Optimized for a wide range of platforms, the software runs in a web browser, on a server, or on virtually any device—including smartphones and tablets—without requiring a GPU. No data is transmitted to the cloud or to external servers for processing, ensuring complete confidentiality and compliance with data-protection standards.
