Smart Engines has announced on-the-go PDF417 decoding on driver’s licenses based on AAMVA standard. With this new feature, Smart Code Engine will be able to seamlessly extract the data from US driver’s licenses and parse it into a human-readable format. The software allows building advanced digital onboarding and remote services.

The AAMVA, American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, driver’s licenses Card Design Standard was created with an intent to improve the data security of US IDs and driver’s licenses and to increase the level of interoperability among cards. According to the AAMVA specification, a US driver’s license has to contain a PDF417 barcode. This barcode comprises names, dates, signature, endorsements, inventory control numbers, and others. By decoding the barcode symbology, Smart Code Engine splits data into separate fields in mobile application or web-based solutions.
A new option of PDF417 parsing on US driver’s license enters into Smart Code Engine SDK 1.4.0. This software can be used for fast and precise scanning on any devices, including smartphones, tablets, mobile terminals, thin clients, as well as on any kind of servers and PCs.
