AI developer Smart Engines releases a 15% smaller mobile SDK for ID scanning

Smart Engines has unveiled a new generation of Smart ID Engine v2.0.0, a system for scanning ID cards, passports, and driving licences. The developers have fundamentally redesigned the AI-based algorithms. This resulted in a 15% reduction in package size and a 30% reduction in RAM consumption in any mode, which includes all identity documents. A lightweight SDK with a simple API enables easy integration into web, mobile, desktop and server applications.

‘Our team has worked hard and reduced the package size significantly. This means that the client downloads our software faster, with a minimum of Internet traffic. Most importantly, the efficiency of program initialization will increase – the document recognition process will start much faster,’ commented Smart Engines CEO Vladimir Arlazarov, PhD in Computer Science.

Smart ID Engine v2.0.0 now supports 2484 document types with 3862 unique templates worldwide. The new version adds many documents from the huge list of countries, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, China, Finland, France, Germany, Georgia, Israel, Mexico, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America, etc.

The passport scanning system can be supplemented with a unique face verification module that provides a robust and accurate solution for matching the photo on a user’s ID with a selfie on a mobile device or via a remote verification channel. The Smart ID Engine Face Verification Module does not detect biometric features, does not create robust face descriptors, does not store or transmit biometric images. It is fully compliant with the AI Act – the European Commission’s proposed law on artificial intelligence.
