PJSC Bank Saint Petersburg chose Smart Engines’ optical character recognition technology for scanning one-dimensional and two-dimensional barcodes. Payment by QR and AZTEC codes will improve the User Experience of the mobile application “BSPB”.
Recognition of QR codes in the mobile banking solution BSPB is used for quick pay for utility bills, tax, and budget payments. By the end of the year, Bank Saint Petersburg plans to launch a new c2b service for the fast payment system from the National Payment Card System, which allows the bank’s clients to make transfers by QR code when purchasing goods and services.
To make a payment, the user just needs to scan the barcode (QR code, AZTEC) in the application – and all the necessary details will be automatically filled into the payment form. Smart Engines technologies allow the mobile bank to recognize even partially damaged barcodes and barcodes that are made with deviations from standards. The algorithms are resistant to changes in lighting conditions and camera angles. The technology provides high-quality barcode reading, including low-end phone model users.
“Currently, the BSPB mobile application is used by more than 63% of the bank’s active clients and more than 85% of all active users of remote services. They scan hundreds of thousands of receipts every month. The introduction of high-precision Smart Engines technologies for reading barcodes is another step forward to improve the convenience of the application for our customers, ” said Konstantin Smetanin, Development Director of the Digital Department of Bank Saint Petersburg.
